In the last post, we showed multiple rooms that were completely transformed and without breaking the bank- even the ‘most expensive’ rooms- the kitchen and bathroom!
We will now reveal the rest of the ‘before and afters’ of this home- the bedrooms.
Where to Start in a bedroom?
There really isn’t a whole lot to do when it comes to bedrooms. When we purchased the house pictured, we ‘inherited’ A LOT of stuff!! Of course there are pros and cons to this.
Pros:
- Learning about the people who once lived there- this house was not sold to many people. We got to see old black and white family photos, military letters sent home, and old photos of the house.
- Antiques Galore! Walking into this house was like walking into the 50’s. Many of the antiques looked brand new!
- Many of these items we were able to sell to help cover the costs of the renovation
Cons:
- Time!!!! Sifting through all of the stuff takes precious time that could be devoted to renovating. We ended up boxing up and hauling most of it to our primary home to sort through at a later time.
Once the room is cleared….
With the room empty, then you can really get an idea of what you have to work with. In older houses, the best qualities of the room are often covered. In the bedroom pictured below, we peeled back multiple layers of flooring. First was the dirty, dirty carpet that was under all the ‘stuff’. The best part about this carpet…..throwing it out the window! Then came the confetti patterned linoleum, follow by the tan background with red stars linoleum. Those too went out the window. What we uncovered was gorgeous original hardwood floor….painted pea green.
Here was what the bedroom looked like before we started clearing it out and stripping it down…
And the layers of floor….
Lots of sanding, stain, and poly later, we had these beautiful floors!
Bedroom #1 Complete!
Then with lots of cleaning and paint, the bedroom was complete!
Here is a look at the ‘before and afters’ of the other 2 bedrooms that were transformed as well!
Bedroom #2 and #3 to come later!
